ABOUT NoVA OUTSIDE

NoVA Outside is an Alliance of Environmental Educators who connect and teach people of all ages about their natural environment.  Our members come from schools, businesses, nature centers, non-profits, “green” groups, and government agencies.

We are committed to sharing information, resources, and talent to develop the next generation of citizen stewards in the Northern Virginia area.

NoVA Outside Is:

Your link to Richmond!
The alliance was formed as a regional network of the Virginia Office of Environmental Education.  We are an official member of the Virginia Resource Use and Education Council, the information and policy setting body for environmental education in Virginia.

Your way to keep local political officials informed!
In 2011, NoVA Outside held its first Leadership Summit on Children in Nature.   With Jim Moran as our keynote speaker, over 60 environmental leaders collaborated on current and future ways to promote environmental education and action.  Our ideas were then presented to local officials. In 2012, our Green School Expo includes a session to inform officials of regional, state, and national green school efforts.

Your connection to environmental educators!
Our mission is to foster partnerships between like-minded individuals and organizations that spark student curiosity, improve content knowledge and promote action.  We have a rich and growing mailing list and offer an online community calendar of outdoor and environmental education events.

Your source for information on environmental education topics and training!
Our member events are aimed at improving environmental literacy, advancing teaching techniques and developing the necessary skills to address the evolving and multi-faceted challenges to our environment. Past topics have included: The Science Behind Time Outdoors; Building Wildlife Habitats at Schools; and Getting Preschoolers Outdoors.
