Our community of volunteers makes things happen through work done on committees. Please consider bringing your talents to one of our committees by filling out our online volunteer form.

People who serve on the Leadership Team commit to a minimum term of two years and can also be a core volunteer for any one Committee. Each Committee communicates monthly among its core volunteer members to move work forward.

The Leadership Team provides vision and overall leadership for all aspects of NoVA Outside, including programming and event planning, financial oversight, our role in the Northern Virginia community and within the Virginia Environmental Education Association.   This committee works closely with our Program Manager, Tami Entabi. The Leadership Team is headed by Elenor Hodges.

The Development Committee’s role is to develop and oversee the implementation of NoVA Outside’s fundraising strategies. The committee’s work focuses on grant writing and sponsorships.  In addition, this committee works with the Communications Committee to develop materials to be used in fundraising and to maintain good database and record-keeping systems to support development efforts. The development committee also works closely with the Programming Committee on ideas for special events and marketing and outreach efforts, as well as in finding ways to increase awareness of NOVA Outside in our service area. The Development Committee is led by Kurt Moser.

The Early Childhood Committee coordinates special events for early childhood educators and provides resources on the NoVA Outside website.  This committee is responsible for early childhood professional development workshops and conferences, book/film discussion groups, and tours of early childhood outdoor learning spaces. This committee sometimes partners with the School-Aged Committee.  The Early Childhood Committee is led by Sandra Redmore.

The School-Aged Green Educators committee coordinates professional development workshops and conferences, book/film discussion groups and tours of natural play and learning spaces for K-12 teachers and others who work with children in that age group.  This committee sometimes partners with the Early Childhood Committee and with the SEAS Planning Committee.  The School-aged Committee is led by Erin Hurley and Trish Wotowiec.

SEAS, the School Environmental Action Showcase is a NoVA Outside signature event.  This planning committee coordinates this annual event for students and schools. There are many ways to be involved, including coordination with event partners and sponsors, arranging venue and event logistics, organizing volunteers, and reaching out to potential sponsors. The SEAS Planning Committee is led by Kurt Moser and Elaine Tholen.

The Communications Committee coordinates all communications to our community and the media.  This includes creating promotional and other print materials, writing and editing content for the website and social media outreach. The Communications Committee develops messaging campaigns and ensures consistency across all media platforms – website, facebook, twitter, and others.  The Communications Committee lead position is currently vacant.
